The central theme of this year's Plenary session will be: "The App Effect".
We are all witnessing the rise of the new App economy. More and more people are swiping and tapping on their mobile machines. Just some numbers: In the Apple App Store are more than 350,000 applications. Collectively they have been downloaded over 7 billion times. The App Market is growing to an astonishing $ 38 billion in 2015. And within five years the mobile web will overtake the desktop Web.
The popularization of Apps, iPhones, Slates and Pads is an important signal that shows that the information society has entered a new era. Bring your own device, bring your own app, bring your own knowledge, friends and experts is the new normal. Clients and employees are showing unprecedented new styles of Information Behavior. The persuasiveness and immediacy of the App Machines are changing people‟s perspective on the world.
This powerful change towards information drives the search for new business models, culture and organizational structures. Important questions for the next five years:
Michiel Boreel is CTO of Sogeti Worldwide and covers the areas of Market and Technology watch, Strategic Process Planning and Corporate Identity as well as CSR.
Michiel trained as an Industrial Engineer and started his working career as a junior consultant with a highly regarded management consultancy firm in Amsterdam. After two years he made the transition towards the Information Technology industry by working for one of the companies that are now united in Sogeti. Performing several assignments in systems programming and implementation of security systems he learned about the technical side of the profession.
Combining both technical skills and organizational experience, Michiel began advising about the Reverse Engineering of legacy information systems and Migration Estimation Methods. Adding commercial responsibilities, he worked as an account manager for a couple of years, focusing on the telecom and financial industries. In 1994 Sogeti asked Michiel to lead a new initiative, called the Institute for the Analysis of New Technology, a small research group with the goal of inspiring customers to apply new technology in business processes.
Since the start, Michiel co-authored several books about different IT-related topics that are successfully published in multiple languages. During that time Michiel has become a well regarded speaker at both national and international events and venues. The last years Michiel, as director of strategy, has been involved in the innovation of Sogeti's business processes. A role that he now also plays within the international Sogeti group of companies.

IT innovation can be considered as a major challenge for many companies or organisations, as new IT capabilities are not necessarily part of their core business. Not many persons/organisations are capable of highlighting the potential uses of new IT developments and of providing appropriate insight and pragmatic approaches for their deployment.
This is the mission of ViNT, SOGETIs innovation lab: ensuring that the effects of IT innovation on the business processes of your company are explained, understood and can be turned into reality!
ViNT regularly publishes books that combine factual descriptions and possible applications of specific IT innovations. By doing so, SOGETI inspires many organisations to consider and adopt new technologies. The latest SOGETI ViNT publication is called Don't be evil and can be downloaded freely as many other Sogeti publications at: http://www.sogeti.com/publications
Over the past months, ViNT experts have been working on a new publication entitled The APP effect, which provides insight into the current economic crisis and a possible way out. The key concepts and findings of this work will be presented during the plenary session of our conference.
