Application Architect

"If you get something you want, that is good. But if you don't, it is even better. Think beyond the present." Thomas Mathew, my father.

A short introduction of what you do at Sogeti: Currently I am an architect at the European Commission, specializing in JEE applications. Along with my usual client facing work, I write blogs for Sogeti (SogetiLabs) and engage in discussions around the latest in technologies. I also enjoy being a counselor to some of my fellow Java colleagues.

Use 3 words to describe yourself: Story teller, learner and futurist

Tell us a bit about your background:
I started my IT-career in 2004 in India and have played various roles over the years, ranging from developer to project lead, counsellor and finally architect. My focus during the first 5 years of my career, was to gain maturity on the management ladder and to explore the various aspects of management. In 2011, I had the opportunity to meet a few wonderful technology leaders in Belgium, who put me on this journey of exploring technology and innovation. Since then I have started viewing the IT-landscape in a different way. I have been on this learning journey, absorbing exciting information and sharing this with people around me. I believe that only a learning organization can be sustainable in the long run.

What are you most passionate about in your area of expertise?

The most satisfying aspect for me, being a technologist, is the fact that every day there is something new to learn; either from colleagues or from experts around the world. There is never a dull moment. I feel we are in the most interesting phase of IT at this moment, where a lot of new innovations are springing up, as we speak. I am a hands-on person and love to try the latest in technology as soon as it arises. My area of interest lies somewhere between technology and strategy. I like to see how the current trends in innovation match up to business needs.

What is a typical workday like for you?
I spend most of my weekdays at the client location. After the working hours, I enjoy my family time, which is very important for me. I believe a work-life balance is the key to providing one's best in anything that one does. During my free time, I enjoy reading some books or articles on philosophy or innovation.

What makes it different to work for Sogeti?
I am completing my 10th year with Sogeti this year. And one thing that has held me firmly with Sogeti is the fact that I get to engage in discussions and have the freedom to put on different hats on a regular basis. The open door policy gives space to techno savvy consultants like me, to initiate discussions and explore options to implement them. The biggest advantage that Sogeti has, are its global assets and presence, which is available to all consultants to leverage. I believe Sogeti has a distinct flavor of being global with a local touch.
